When Daphne Virlar-Knight (EBio’17) graduates in May, she will have spent four years with The Herd, one of CU 鶹ӰԺ’s largest student groups on campus.

Last year she took the helm as Herd president, and is preparing for her final months with a group that has had a huge impact on her CU experience. The Herd helped her create a community of friends and develop valuable leadership skills.

After planning and participating in dozens of Herd events, Virlar-Knight most looks forward to Welcome Wednesdays, a free lunch for students the first Wednesday of every month at the historic Koenig Alumni Center.

“After a few times, you notice some regulars, they bring their friends, and everyone has a genuinely good time,” she said.

The Herd, CU’s student alumni association, is around 5,000 members strong. The group coordinates several university traditions including the Nearly Naked Mile — the largest student clothing drive at CU, the St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser for youth cancer survivors, professional development workshops and football tailgates.

All members receive Herd gear to wear and discounts at several 鶹ӰԺ restaurants, retail stores and the CU Ski Bus. The Herd Leadership Council also is an option for students who want more involvement.

This October, The Herd is excited to announce a new event: CU’s Amazing Race. The competition around 鶹ӰԺ and campus is a must-experience adventure for Buffs.

“The Herd has something to offer everyone,” said Virlar-Knight. “It's been integral to my success and happiness throughout college.”
