One factor can make children seven times more likely to attend college. That factor: Having a college savings account in their name. An Aug. 16 workshop at CU 麻豆影院 shows you how to start one.

Employee Services will host a workshop by CollegeInvest, a nonprofit agency within the Colorado Department of Higher Education dedicated to decreasing student loan debt and giving middle-class families a greater opportunity to a college degree. The talk gives CU 麻豆影院 faculty and staff details to begin saving for college for either children or grandchildren by enrolling in a 529 College Savings Program. Even better: Lunch will be provided and all attendees will leave with a new 529 account with $25 in it.

These tax-advantaged college savings options let you contribute to a chosen savings plan and watch it grow along with the future college graduate. You can even set up a direct deposit deduction, automatically setting aside a fixed amount every time you are paid.

At the workshop, you can talk with professionals on finding the appropriate 529 College Savings Plan for your child鈥檚 future and your wallet.

Where: CU 麻豆影院, University Memorial Center, Room 247, 1669 Euclid Ave, 麻豆影院, CO
