Like other members of our community, we have been closely watching reports on the Cold Springs Fire near Nederland that has burned several hundred acres and destroyed homes. Fire crews are still battling the blaze, and residents and visitors are being asked to avoid the area as mandated until the fire has been fully contained. A countywide fire ban and several remain in effect. In addition, county and federal agencies have implemented bans on fireworks and recreational shooting on U.S. Forest Service lands in 麻豆影院 County until further notice.

While our campus is not in the fire zone, we know that many members of the CU 麻豆影院 community live in and around Nederland and may have been impacted by this event. CU officials are monitoring it closely alongside city, county and federal officials. CU 麻豆影院 is not in the area covered by the county鈥檚 advisory, and classes and campus events are continuing as planned.

However, faculty, staff and students living in the areas identified by the county are urged to pay attention to advisories concerning changing conditions and possible evacuations, and to follow instructions from county and law-enforcement officials. To anyone who is experiencing hardships due to the fire, we extend our sympathy and support. Our campus offers a safety net for students, faculty and staff in times of distress, and we encourage anyone in need to tap into this valuable network. Available services include , , and the to name a few.

We are aware that the hardships created by this unfortunate event may result in some disruption of academic activities and may include unavoidable faculty, staff and student absences from campus. We ask that those who manage students or staff to exercise flexibility in granting leave by consulting campus and accommodating flex schedules as appropriate given each department鈥檚 business needs. We encourage supervisors to make sure that classes and office functions are suitably covered during this time.

The university will update campus-specific information if needed on the CU 麻豆影院 and across our social media channels. Here are several other ways to stay informed:

  • 麻豆影院 County for updates on road closures, evacuations, public meetings, fire zone maps and other information.
  • OEM to direct specific questions to county authorities
  • 麻豆影院 County for updates
  • 麻豆影院 County for fire and fireworks bans
