Four of today鈥檚 most acclaimed satirists, Megan Amram, Kevin Avery, Aasif Mandvi听and Scott Dikkers, come together for a one-of-a-kind discussion on the state of comedy on Oct. 6 at CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Macky Auditorium Concert Hall. The event, titled The State of Satire, is presented by the听Distinguished Speakers Board.
Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and the event will begin at 7 p.m.听Tickets will be $2 for CU-麻豆影院 students with a valid Buff OneCard and $10 for community members.听Student tickets will be available starting Sept. 21听on the first floor of the University Memorial Center (UMC) at the Distinguished Speakers Board table, Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Community tickets will be available online at starting Sept. 21. There will be a Q&A portion with the audience following the event.
The panel will be moderated by听Dikkers, founding editor of听The Onion. He will be joined by听Mandvi听of "The Daily Show," "Halal in the Family" and HBO's "The Brink";听Avery, writer for 鈥淟ast Week听Tonight听with John Oliver鈥 and co-host of award-winning podcast "Denzel Washington is the Greatest Actor of All Time Period"; and听Amram, writer for "Parks and Recreation," "Children鈥檚 Hospital," and "Silicon Valley" and author of "Science鈥or Her!." The discussion will center on how satire shapes public discourse today. The panelists also will evaluate the current impact of social media and offer some insights on the future of comedy.
