Colorado’s economy just seems to get stronger as the year goes on. The latest data shows that there were over 26,000 new business filings in the state during the second quarter of 2015, according to a ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ report released today by Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams.
And new filings usually translate into more jobs, says CU-ΒιΆΉΣ°ΤΊ economist Brian Lewandowski.
CUT 1 β€œThrough this expansion that we’re currently in we’re seeing a continuation in the increase in new business filings in Colorado year-over-year, which is an important indicator because it points to Colorado employment continuing to expand over the next six months.” (:17)
The Secretary of State’s Quarterly Business and Economic Indicators Report, prepared by CU-Β颹ӰԺ’s Leeds School of Business, uses data from the state’s central business registry. According to Lewandowski, statistics show that typically about 20 percent of new filings translate into actual businesses being formed.
CUT 2Μύ Μύβ€œAccording to the business dynamics statistic from the U.S. Censes Bureau, we see that there is a difference of about 80 percent between the new entity filings from the Secretary of State’s office and a new business actually being created or formed. (:18) So 25,000 new entity filings should equate to about 5,000 new establishments in the state.” (:24)
Lewandowski says this is another indicator that Colorado’s economy is one of the strongest in the nation.
CUT 3 β€œThe Colorado economy is performing much better than the national economy overall. So we’re definitely one of the best performing states nationally. (:10) And what this data points to is that we have no reason to see that being interrupted over the next six months.” (:17)
