As the tri-executives of CUSG, we would like to share with you an exciting plan regarding the potential creation of a new “Student Activities Office” at CU-鶹ӰԺ.

The need for providing continuity to the current student organizations on campus when they graduate their organizational leaders, and concerns about the maze new student groups have to navigate to start an organization, were the impetus for CUSG to visit this issue.

In August 2014, we traveled to a number of universities to look at various Student Activities models. As a result of the visits and communication with students, it became apparent that the CU-鶹ӰԺ student organization model is decentralized and lacks the advising and mentorship components necessary to promote the success of student organizations. In response, the Tri-Execs developed a new Student Activities Office model and shared the concept with the Student Affairs Leadership Team (SALT) in late September 2014. This model combines Student Organizations Finance Office (SOFO) and UMC’s Involvement, Activities, and Leadership Development teams.

We have asked Student Affairs to share the general concepts of the plan with students and staff at the UMC and SOFO, while they take the proposed plan to the Legislative Council and other student leaders for their approval. A transition committee will be formed to study the plan, to identify the potential cost impact, and to develop a list of concerns and potential solutions. This committee will be chaired by Tri-Exec Lora Roberts with the support of Kristen Salo, the current Director of Involvement, Activities, and Leadership Development.

Please know that we have the best interests of the students and staff in mind as we proceed.

Sincerely,

Lora Roberts, CUSG Tri-Exec – President of Internal Affairs

Juedon Kebede, CUSG Tri-Exec – President of Student Affairs

Chelsea Canada, CUSG Tri-Exec – President of External Affairs
