麻豆影院 Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano today announced the appointment of Charles V. 鈥淐harlie鈥� Sweet as vice chancellor and managing senior associate university counsel for the CU-麻豆影院 campus.听 The appointment is effective Sept. 1.

Sweet has long ties to the University of Colorado system, having served as vice president and university counsel for the CU System from 1994 to 2007. Before that, from 1988 to 1994, he served as associate university counsel and the designated counsel for the CU-麻豆影院 campus. Most recently, he served as executive director of strategic planning and initiatives at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs from 2010 to 2014. From 2008 through 2009, Sweet was a partner in the Denver office of the law firm of Holme Roberts & Owen.

Prior to coming to 麻豆影院, Sweet served as general counsel for Old Dominion University in Virginia.听

鈥淐harlie鈥檚 long association with the University of Colorado and his esteem in the higher education legal community made him a natural pick for this important post,鈥� said DiStefano. 鈥淗e will be a strong advocate for the campus鈥檚 legal interests, and a great strategic partner for our faculty, staff, students and administrators.鈥�

The managing senior associate university counsel holds a senior position in the Office of University Counsel. In this position, Sweet will be responsible for the legal functions for CU-麻豆影院, and will advise the chancellor, the cabinet and CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 combined executive leadership on legal and policy matters. The position reports to the vice president and university counsel and supervises a staff of four attorneys and two support staff in CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 legal offices. 听听

As a campus vice chancellor, Sweet will report to the chancellor and serve as an officer of the campus and a member of the chancellor鈥檚 cabinet. In this role, he will be responsible for the implementation of campus goals and objectives related to the provision of legal services and for the successful implementation of the campus鈥檚 strategic plans.

Sweet earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Duke University and a law degree from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the bar in both Colorado and Virginia.
