It鈥檚 nearly summertime and that means... campus construction! While it鈥檚 true that construction brings some disruption, I鈥檓 happy to report that Facilities Management is gearing up to make our campus even more functional, beautiful, and sustainable than it already is. By squeezing projects in over the summer break, we鈥檙e able to minimize impacts during the rest of the year when the campus is even busier.
If you鈥檙e in the vicinity of 18th听Street, please be aware that the road will be closed to all vehicle traffic from May 12 through early August. The closure will run from the ATLAS Institute south to Imig Music and Euclid AutoPark. The primary reason for the closure is to accommodate a water line replacement, but the project also includes making badly-needed improvements to the road surface and adding a new crosswalk and storm inlets. 听A complete closure will allow the road to reopen sooner than if the road remained open during construction and will also substantially reduce project costs.
Bus routes and pedestrian/bicycle traffic will be re-routed during the project, with signage and wayfinding provided. For information about bus routes, please visit . They have carefully considered accessibility needs as well and plan to make every accommodation possible.
Other construction plans this summer include putting the finishes touches on the Rec Center and Baker Hall. If you haven鈥檛 paid a visit to the Rec Center lately, stop by and admire the newly-renovated facility that is getting rave reviews from the community. The newly-renovated Baker Hall will open its doors to students in time for the fall semester. Glenn Miller Ballroom is also scheduled for a facelift () and we鈥檝e got exciting upgrades in store for Athletics. We鈥檒l be continuing our work on the upgraded chemistry labs in Ekeley and have broken ground on the Sustainability, Energy, and Environment Complex (SEEC) on East Campus. The East District Energy Plant鈥攚hich you鈥檝e probably noticed from 28th听Street when entering 麻豆影院 from U.S. 36鈥攊s taking form and will start generating power in early 2015.
I鈥檇 like to thank the campus community for patiently accommodating our past summer construction projects and ask for your patience once again. Facilities Management works closely with Parking & Transportation Services, Environmental Health & Safety, CU Police Department, Admissions, Orientation, Disability Services, academic units, building proctors, and many others to coordinate summer projects and minimize impacts. We could never undertake all the upgrades and improvements that we do without everyone鈥檚 collaboration.
