Join the 麻豆影院, the City of 麻豆影院 and the 麻豆影院 Valley School District for events related to , a global movement to end violence against women and girls.

The 麻豆影院 community sees this as an important step toward ending violence against all people. We value the health and safety of every member of our community and are endeavoring, along with one billion others across the planet, to find new ways to reduce and eliminate violent and disrespectful behaviors.

One Billion Rising will take place on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. We invite you to attend any of the community events and would like to extend a special invitation to attend a set of events taking place at the University Memorial Center (UMC). Rooms will be announced on site.听

10:15-11:45 a.m. Read-ins to End Violence: This will be the launch of a new program for K-8 students with readings, discussions, and activities. Volunteer readers and activity leaders are needed! RSVP. Led by Jessica Coulson.
10:15-11:30 a.m.

Guy Talk:听Join campus, community, and student leaders in discussing President Obama鈥檚 recent call for a 鈥渃ultural shift of men鈥 in regards to violence. Brainstorm what this might look like and how to achieve a broader, healthy, vibrant, non-violent cultural norm for masculinity.

Young Guys Talk:听Similar to above, for middle schoolers.

Wake Up, Be Awesome:听Rise to your fullest potential. Energize and empower your body, mind, and heart with a free, guided yoga class led by Registered Yoga Teacher and CU-麻豆影院 graduate student, Lauren Maslen. Namaste! (Open to all.)

11:35-11:45 a.m.听 鈥淐hild Bride鈥:听Theatrical performance by undergraduate student Lima Islamzai about life growing up in Afghanistan. (Recommended for high school students or adults.)
11:50 a.m.听 Flash Mob听by the UMC fountains or the stage by the UMC grill. Learn the dance steps at . Or just come watch or join in. Led by graduate student Amanda Benzin. (Open to all.)

Embrace Conflict, Create Peace: A 麻豆影院 Ki Aikido workshop on developing peaceful ways of dealing with adversity, conflict, and aggression. Led by Abel Villacorta and Merlyn Holmes. (Open to all.)
