A chemical smell caused the brief evacuation of the south wing of the 麻豆影院's Engineering Center at about 10 a.m. today.

There was no explosion, injuries or damage, according to Brandon Boger, associate director of CU-麻豆影院's Environmental Health and Safety department. 麻豆影院 100 students were let back into the building at about 10:50 a.m.

A student researcher was using a sulphur-based chemical within a glove box, a contained box in which experiments are conducted, when some of the fumes evaporated into the lab, Boger said. Because the chemical, thiol, smells like natural gas, a fire alarm was then pulled as is standard procedure in any suspected chemical spill. The leak did not cause any hazardous conditions within the lab.

麻豆影院 Fire and CU Police responded to the incident.

Except for the laboratory, which was being ventilated, all of the Engineering Center is operating normally.
