麻豆影院 Provost Russell Moore today announced that the CU-麻豆影院 study abroad program at the American University in Cairo has been cancelled due to safety concerns amid political unrest in Egypt.

"We have consulted with numerous sources, including other universities, and have been carefully following the recommendations from the U.S. Department of State," Moore said. "Student safety combined with a successful and productive study abroad experience remain our top priorities. We expect to move the affected students to a place where both of those priorities can be met."

Four students were registered for the spring semester but had not yet started classes at the American University in Cairo, according to Mary Dando, CU-麻豆影院's director of Study Abroad Programs. Students and their families were notified late Monday of the decision to suspend the study abroad program. Office of International Education staff members are in the process of coordinating with the American University of Cairo on evacuating the students to a safe location in Europe.

Dando said CU is also investigating alternate study abroad locations for the spring semester so students can continue their study abroad experiences.
