The University of Colorado at 麻豆影院 will hold its winter commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 17, in the Coors Events Center on campus.
The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public.
Due to traffic delays, an ongoing construction project at the Coors Events Center and the possibility of adverse winter weather, early arrival is strongly advised. Guests should plan to be seated by 9 a.m. People entering the events center are asked not to bring large purses or bags to the ceremony.
During the ceremony, 2,176 degrees will be conferred. Degrees to be awarded include 1,669 bachelor's degrees, 386 master's degrees, 113 doctoral degrees and eight law degrees.
The commencement address will be given by Juri Toomre, a CU professor of astrophysical and planetary sciences and a fellow of JILA, a joint institute of CU and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Toomre received this year's Hazel Barnes Prize, the highest faculty recognition for teaching and research awarded by the university.
Toomre has been a professor at CU-麻豆影院 since 1975. His research is in solar physics, astrophysical fluid dynamics, supercomputing simulations and helioseismology, which is the study of solar oscillations to learn more about the sun's interior structure.
City and campus roads may be congested for approximately one and a half hours before the ceremony and about an hour afterward. Parking lots and gray meters near the Coors Events Center are free for commencement parking. Traffic officers and parking supervisors and attendants will be available to assist campus visitors.
