The University of Colorado at 麻豆影院 will host one of 40 "China Town Hall" meetings being held across the nation on Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Center for Asian Studies at CU-麻豆影院 will host the event, which will be held in the Aspen Rooms in the University Memorial Center. Tickets are required. For more information about ticket prices, or to register, visit .
"Participants will have an opportunity to listen and talk to people who have been at the center of the discussion on Chinese-American relations for the last several decades," said history Professor Timothy B. Weston, interim director of the Center for Asian Studies.
A live webcast focused on U.S.-China relations featuring U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt M. Campbell, will open the event.
Following the webcast, David Lampton, dean of faculty and professor of Chinese Studies at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, will give a talk titled "Obama Deals With a Rising China." His talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session moderated by Weston.
"We need to take China very seriously, especially in Colorado as a high-tech state with a growing industry in green technology," Weston said. "We are going to be increasingly tied in with China and we really need to take advantage of moments like this where we can open things up for discussion because China is becoming such a significant shaper of our contemporary world."
The National Committee on United States-China Relations established the China Town Hall event in 2007. Based in New York, the nonprofit educational organization was created in 1966 to help educate Americans and Chinese about each other's countries and to promote cooperation between the two countries.
