A minor laboratory fire at the University of Colorado at 麻豆影院's Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building early this morning was extinguished by the building's sprinkler system and is being investigated by the 麻豆影院 Fire Department.

The entire Cristol Chemistry complex, including room 140, will remain closed for the rest of the day, Sept. 29, while officials conduct a safety assessment and determine the cause of the fire and the extent of damage to the laboratory. All classes, exams and lab work to be conducted in the building on Sept. 29 will be rescheduled. Information regarding the building's reopening and the resumption of classes and labs will be posted on the front of and in CUConnect.

Officials do not believe anyone was in the building at the time the alarm went off at 5:55 a.m.

The Campus Alerts text-messaging system was used this morning at 6:43 a.m. to notify the campus the building's closure due to the fire. Since the text-messaging system was already activated this morning, the campus alerts test scheduled for today is canceled. If faculty, staff and students are signed up for the service and did not receive a text message this morning, notify the IT Service Center at 303-735-HELP or stop by the University Memorial Center loggia where an information table is set up. Volunteers are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer questions or help individuals sign up for the system.
