More than 40 artworks from China, ranging from traditional ink drawings and watercolors to vibrant oil paintings, will be displayed beginning April 24 at the University of Colorado at 麻豆影院 as part of an art exchange with Ningxia University.

All works in the exhibition, "Centers and Borders: An Art Exchange Between China and the United States," were done by faculty members at the 19,000-student university located in Yinchuan, the capital of the Ningxia region of north-central China.

The 5 p.m. opening reception and lecture in Norlin Library's Center for British and Irish Studies is free and open to the public. CU-麻豆影院 Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson will make welcoming remarks at 5:30 p.m. followed by a lecture on "Art, China and Globalization" by four visiting art professors from Ningxia University including the dean of the School of Fine Arts. Light refreshments will be served.

The exhibition is part of an art exchange that last year sent art from the United States, including pieces from the faculty of the CU-麻豆影院 department of art and art history, to Ningxia University.

"Through the conduit of art we can build relationships while tearing down misconceptions about other cultures and countries," Peterson said. "We enrich ourselves as a community when we acknowledge and respect the cultures of others."

The art exchange was organized by CU-麻豆影院 art and art history Professor George Rivera.

Starting April 25, the artworks will be displayed in the Norlin Library Hotspot Gallery on the first floor during regular library hours. The artwork also will be displayed digitally on the video wall in the lobby of the ATLAS building in June and July. The exhibit will continue through July 31.

Ningxia University faculty members attending the reception will include Gou Lin, dean of the School of Fine Arts; Li Geng, vice dean; and Han Xuewen and Hou Yun, associate professors. Their lecture will be translated into English.

The exhibit is sponsored by the chancellor's office, the department of art and art history, the Center for Asian Studies and University Libraries.
