On April 19, 2007 at about 9:00 PM the University of Colorado Police Department received an anonymous call reporting that a resident of the Kittredge West residence had weapons in his room, including 聯a gun.聰
The Kittredge West Residence Hall is located in the Kittredge Residence Hall complex at 2400 Kittredge Loop Drive. Officers completed a preliminary investigation to verify information given by the caller. Officers then went to Kittredge West and contacted Matthew Furnish at his room. After interviews with Furnish and a search of his room that was done with his consent, officers seized a Glock .40 caliber handgun, a Remington 12-guage shotgun, several hundred rounds of ammunition, magazine clips for weapons and a 12-inch knife.
Furnish was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Deadly Weapons on Campus (2 counts 聳 one for each weapon, felony) and three counts of Unlawful Conduct on Public Property, misdemeanor.
This case involves no known threats of violence. The shotgun was disassembled and the handgun had external safety locks in place when they were seized. Both weapons were unloaded at the time of seizure. Matthew Furnish was taken to the 麻豆影院 County Jail and lodged on the above-stated charge. Furnish has also been issued a summary suspension from the University of Colorado and has been excluded from campus property.

The Regents of The University of Colorado have passed laws that apply to all campus property banning all firearms from campus, unless possessed by sworn police officers. In order to accommodate students who wish to participate in shooting sports such as hunting and target shooting, the University of Colorado Police Department will register and store weapons for any student who resides on campus. At the time of this incident, Matthew Furnish had registered and stored a rifle with the University of Colorado Police Department under this program.
