Author and lecturer Paul Loeb will present "Soul of a Citizen: Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time" at the University of Colorado at 麻豆影院 on Sept. 13.
The presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. in MCD Biology Building room A2B70 and is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Institute for Ethical and Civic Engagement.
Loeb will speak on the importance of civic engagement and social responsibility, especially among students. He also will present a separate workshop to faculty, staff, administrators and graduate students on how to teach in a service-oriented manner.
Loeb has spent 30 years researching and writing on the topic of civic engagement and has spoken at more than 300 colleges and universities nationwide. His 2002 talk to the American Association of State Colleges and Universities annual provosts' conference inspired the creation of a 200-campus American Democracy Project.
He is the author of "Soul of a Citizen: Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time," "Generation at the Crossroads: Apathy and Action on the American Campus," "Nuclear Culture and Hope in Hard Times" and editor of "The Impossible Will Take a Little While."
