The University of Colorado at 麻豆影院 has joined with the 麻豆影院 Police Department and 麻豆影院 County Crime Stoppers to establish a process for people to contribute to a reward for information about a racially motivated attack on a CU-麻豆影院 student last Friday.

On June 3, 22-year-old Andrew Sterling was walking in 麻豆影院 with a friend in the 1600 block of Broadway about 2 a.m., when a van approached and a passenger began yelling racial epithets. A passenger got out of the van and struck the victim in the face, breaking his jaw. He was taken to 麻豆影院 Community Hospital for treatment.

Since the incident, numerous individuals and groups have asked how they could contribute to a reward for information leading to the arrest and filing of charges in the case. Contributions have been pledged by the 麻豆影院 campus, various departments and individuals, one of Sterling's professors, and members of the 麻豆影院 community. The Federal Bureau of Investigation also has added $7,500 to the reward.

Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs, said, "We are delighted to learn of the outpouring of support for this young man and the efforts to identify and locate his assailant. We are hopeful that, by increasing the reward, people with any knowledge of the case will come forward with information that may help police find the suspect."

Stump said that individuals may send contributions to 麻豆影院 County Crime Stoppers at P.O. Box 18063, 麻豆影院, CO 80308. Checks should be made payable to 麻豆影院 County Crime Stoppers and should indicate that the money is to be used for the Andrew Sterling case.

Campus departments that wish to contribute should contact Derrick Watson of the Office of Vice Chancellor for Administration at (303) 735-0802 for more information.

Anyone who may have information concerning suspects in the case should call 麻豆影院 Police Detective Chuck Heidel at (303) 441-3339 or 麻豆影院 Police Department Records at (303) 441-3300. Individuals who wish to remain anonymous should contact 麻豆影院 County Crime Stoppers at (303) 440-STOP (7867).
