Stanley Deetz, a professor of communication at the University of Colorado at 麻豆影院, has won a national award in recognition of a lifetime of achievement, including his groundbreaking work in organizational communication.
The National Communication Association will honor Deetz with its Distinguished Scholar Award during its annual convention in Chicago on Nov. 13.
Deetz specializes in communication within large organizations like corporations, specifically studying how broader input and cooperation from people of all levels in an organization can be incorporated in the decision-making process.
His award-winning 1992 book, "Democracy in an Age of Corporate Colonization," is widely cited as having provided a new direction in both communication and management studies.
Deetz joined the CU-麻豆影院 faculty in 1997. His current research focuses on power relations at work, primarily on how they form and are sustained in everyday interaction, and their consequences for decision making. He also serves as an organizational consultant and does training work for companies in the United States and Europe.
Founded in 1914, the National Communication Association of Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit organization of about 7,100 members from every state in the United States and more than 20 countries.
