"Global Justice" is the topic of the 2003 Morris Colloquium to be held April 17-18 at the University of Colorado at 麻豆影院.
Sponsored by the CU-麻豆影院 philosophy department, the colloquium will feature two lectures focusing on different aspects of global justice. Both events are free and open to the public.
Professor Thomas Pogge of Columbia University will deliver the keynote address "World Poverty: Explanations and Responsibilities," on Thursday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in Hale Science room 270. Pogge is an internationally known expert on global justice, social and political philosophy, ethics and moral philosophy.
Pogge also will give the second lecture "Justice After Rawls," on Friday, April 18, at 3:15 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Building room 135.
The philosophy department established the Morris Colloquium in 1977 when the professor retired from CU-麻豆影院.
Morris joined the CU-麻豆影院 philosophy faculty in 1947 and taught until 1977. He is remembered as much for his committed involvement in the social issues of his community as for his scholarly work. In 1975 he was honored by the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado for his efforts on behalf of academic freedom and his work to improve conditions at the 麻豆影院 County Jail.
The colloquium is cosponsored by the Morris Fund and the philosophy department.
