CU-麻豆影院 memorial service for astronaut-alumna Kalpana Chawla set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at University Memorial Center

A public memorial service for CU-麻豆影院 alumna Kalpana Chawla, one of seven astronauts who died Saturday on the space shuttle Columbia, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, in the University Memorial Center at the University of Colorado at 麻豆影院.

The memorial service will be in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the UMC, located at Broadway and Euclid Avenue in 麻豆影院.

Speakers will include CU-麻豆影院 Chancellor Richard Byyny; Professor Charbal Farhat, chair of the aerospace engineering department; Emeritus Professor C.Y. Chow, Chawla's primary adviser in aerospace engineering; Stein Sture, associate dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science; and Chief of Staff Leonard Dinegar, representing the office of CU President Elizabeth Hoffman.

Chawla received her doctorate in aerospace engineering from CU-麻豆影院's College of Engineering and Applied Science in 1988.听 She began working at the NASA Ames Research Center after graduating from CU-麻豆影院 and was selected for astronaut training by NASA in 1994. She had flown on the space shuttle Columbia in 1997 before the latest flight, which launched on Jan. 16.

The memorial service will be followed by a small reception in UMC room 235 from noon to 12:30 p.m.

Pay parking is available in the Euclid Autopark east of the UMC on Euclid Avenue.
