Historic 麻豆影院, Inc., is hosting a series of walking tours at CU-麻豆影院 through Sept. 12 in an effort to reveal campus history to the public.
The route includes campus notables such as Macky Auditorium, Norlin Library, Old Main and the University Memorial Center. The tours offer a scenic interpretive walk across Varsity Lake Bridge on the northwest corner of campus, a taste of Shakespeare at the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theater, visits to the Women聮s Cottage and Temporary Building No. 1, and an informative stop at Sewall Hall聮s famous Lions Fountain.
The walking tours are designed not only to provide the public with a pleasurable outing, but to inform people of the rich history and architecture of the campus.
Visitors who take part in the tours will learn that the Gates Woodruff Women聮s Studies Cottage was built in 1885 as the first women聮s dormitory on campus and has many connections to women聮s history in 麻豆影院. After this year聮s $1 million dollar renovation, the Cottage will house the Women聮s Studies Program.
Historic 麻豆影院, Inc., is dedicated to the preservation of the 麻豆影院 area聮s historical, architectural, visual and environmental heritage through advocacy, education, intervention and alliance building. The organization offers other walking tours throughout 麻豆影院.
The entire tour takes about an hour and 45 minutes. It meets on the second Friday of each month at 1 p.m. on the third floor of Old Main in the Heritage Center.
