The first year of the Student Affairs Mentorship Program wrapped up on May 17 with a celebration in the UMC鈥檚 South Terrace Tent. Participants in the program were invited to come together over lunch to talk about their experiences in the program and celebrate their successes.听
Growing and working toward professional goals together
This program provides career and professional development opportunities for all Student Affairs staff. The 2021-22 academic year was the first for a division-wide mentorship program. Calls for participants and training for the program began last summer. The program officially kicked off in August with an event that brought the mentors and mentees together to meet for the first time.听
Mentors and mentees continued to build their relationships throughout the year with monthly meetings to discuss suggested topics or whatever aligned with their shared professional goals. Throughout the year, mentors and mentees got to know each other and learn from each other, helping each of them develop as a professional in Student Affairs.
The value of mentorship
Staff could choose to participate in the program by serving as a mentor or a mentee. Both roles offer the opportunity to learn new skills and grow professionally. Participants in the first year of the Student Affairs Mentorship Program found value in their regular meetings and getting to know others from across the division.
