The dean’s list of advice: Making it through together

JB
Buffs, I’ll be honest—campus does not feel the same without you here and I’m glad you’re back this week. I hope you’re able to participate in upcoming Spring Welcome events and other student events to reconnect with your Buff family this week.

This start to our spring semester isn’t what many of us envisioned it would be. I’m heartbroken for those who were affected by the devastating Marshall Fire just a few weeks ago. This was a traumatic event for hundreds of our campus community members, and it may take a long time for some to fully recover from this experience.

With this tragic event occurring at the same time we are experiencing significant spikes in COVID-19 cases across the country, sometimes it can feel like we can’t catch a break. We have all experienced a lot over the last several months. Let’s remember to hold each other up through every situation.

Check in with your fellow Buffs

As you go about your routines this week, keep in mind that many in our campus community may be going through a tough time. It’s important right now that we show up and care for each other. Check in with your friends, classmates and neighbors to see how they’re doing, and stay in touch. Remember, small acts of kindness and compassion can go a long way.

Prioritize your well-being

For many of us, it’s been a rocky start to the new year. I encourage you to take care of your overall health and well-being this semester.

Do your best to sleep and rest, and eat regular and balanced meals. Aim to stay hydrated and find time for physical activity. Find productive ways to manage stress and take care of your basic needs. Stay connected with family members, friends and those in your community. And be kind to yourself during challenging times.

Know that we’re here for you

Buffs, I’m here for you and care about your well-being. I want to know how you’re doing and how we can best support you. Please reach out to me by emailing deanofstudents@colorado.edu. I also encourage you to check out and use campus resources throughout the semester.

If you were affected by the Marshall Fire, there is a landing page for fire resources including financial assistance, food assistance and work or academic accommodations.

We are Buffs together, and let’s make this a great semester together.
