The graduate program in Social Psychology provides research-intensive training to prepare students for careers focused on increasing scientific knowledge. Training and coursework are directed toward preparing students for careers at universities and colleges, and in other research settings.

No single predictor is used to determine graduate admissions. Admission to the program is typically competitive (roughly 5–10% of applicants have been admitted in recent years) so strength in all aspects is beneficial. This includes strong grades and prior research experience. Because of the research focus in training, fit with current faculty research interests is very important. Letters from academic sources (i.e., someone familiar with your research or classroom abilities) are typically more informative than references from professional sources (e.g., a job supervisor).
