Jen Lewon and Beth Onses (Associate Professor of Theater) were awarded a CU Outreach and Engagement Grant for their project, Young Women’s Vocal Empowerment. Jen and Beth have brought their unique perspectives on voice to work together on various projects to support young women and social change.

Beth and Jen will implement their 12-week introductory curriculum for vocal empowerment with young women in Denver, New York City, Guatemala and Tanzania. Exercises are designed to support young women in using their empowered voices in various social contexts.

Jen and Beth’s project is a great model of transdisciplinary collaboration among university faculty. Beth has developed a variety of programs working with voice in theater and social change. Jen’s knowledge of vocal physiology and acoustic assessment has enabled objective, instrumental measures of vocal change.
