Prevention

Crime Prevention & Safety

The CU 麻豆影院 Police Department听works hard to ensure that the campus is a safe place to live, learn, work, and play. Everyone is urged to take听common sense precautions, be alert, and look out for others. Together we can ensure that our CU 麻豆影院 community remains safe.

Safe Transportation

Any student, staff, or faculty member may receive a free safe escort by vehicle to/from campus and throughout 麻豆影院 city limits via .

Active Harmer Response

Active harmer incidents can occur anywhere at anytime. If an active harmer incident occurs near you, Run. Hide. Fight.

If a safe path is available, RUN

  • Have an escape route and plan in mind
  • Do not hesitate, get out
  • Leave your belongings
  • Evacuate regardless of whether others agree to follow
  • Keep your hands visible

If you cannot get out safely,听HIDE

  • Black entrances, turn off lights and lock doors
  • Stay out of the harmer's view
  • Be quiet and silence your phone (including vibrate)

Fight only as a听LAST RESORT

  • Try to disarm and incapacitate the harmer
  • Improvise weapons or throw items at the harmer
  • Fight like your life depends on it

When law enforcement arrives

  • Remain calm and follow instructions
  • Raise hands and spread fingers
  • Avoid quick movements toward officers, such as holding on to them for safety
  • Avoid pointing, screaming or yelling
  • Do not ask questions when evacuating

Information to provide to 911 operators

  • Location of the active harmer
  • Number of harmers
  • Physical description of harmer(s)
  • Number and type of weapons the harmer has
  • Number of potential victims at location
