Program Summary听

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH.听 The over-arching goal of this NIBIB-NICHD R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation鈥檚 biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs.

To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on听Courses for Skills Development.

This FOA encourages applications from institutions that propose to establish new or to enhance existing team-based design courses or programs in undergraduate Biomedical Engineering departments or other degree-granting programs with Biomedical Engineering tracks/minors. This FOA mainly targets undergraduate students but may also include first-year graduate students. Courses and programs that address innovative and/or ground-breaking development, multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary education, the regulatory pathway and other issues related to the commercialization of medical devices, and clinical immersion are especially encouraged.

  • Project Summary (2-3 pages): Please include the following elements: proposed research education program description, PI and program faculty, program participants description, institutional environment and commitment, recruitment plan to enhance diversity, evaluation plans, dissemination plans.

  • Budget Overview (up to 1 page): A basic budget outlining project costs is sufficient; detailed OCG budgets are not required.

Eligibility

The sponsoring institution must assure support for the proposed program. Appropriate institutional commitment to the program includes the provision of adequate staff, facilities, and educational resources that can contribute to the planned program.

Limited Submission Guidelines

Only one application per institution is allowed.

Award Information

Award Amount: Direct costs of up to $20,000 per year may be requested.

Award Duration: Up to 5 years.
