The Research & Innovation Office has announced the establishment of a new Workforce Innovation Director position dedicated to helping CU 麻豆影院 fulfill local and state needs for next-level talent training, acquisition and retention for research and creative work opportunities.

The CUbit Quantum Initiative at CU 麻豆影院 has appointed physics professor Noah Finkelstein to serve as faculty director of education and workforce. Finkelstein will lead CUbit鈥檚 establishment of a coordinated educational approach that cultivates leaders of the next-generation quantum workforce.

The Research & Innovation Office has announced that Joe Dragavon, PhD, has been named interim director of Core Facilities and Shared Instrumentation, effective February 1. Since the departure of the previous director, Claudius Mundoma, Dragavon has played an instrumental role in maintaining the momentum of the university鈥檚 core facilities community.

The student team's Drone Recharging Operational Payload System (DROPS) received top honors at SciTech. The autonomous cargo delivery system, designed for uncrewed aerial vehicles, is capable of dropping off and picking up drone cargo without the need for human intervention.

The $900K award鈥攁 highly prestigious early-career grant for junior faculty members鈥攚as awarded to Assistant Professor Orit Peleg (Computer Science) to support her research into how fireflies in a swarm synchronize their lighting displays. Corrella Detweiler, professor of molecular, cellular and developmental biology, and Wei Zhang, professor of chemistry and chair of the Chemistry Department, have been named senior members of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Senior members of the NAI are active faculty, scientists and administrators who have been successful in patents, licensing and commercialization and have produced technologies that have been or aspire to be transformational.
