The purpose of the series is to encourage collaboration and idea-sharing.</p> <p>This will be done through a series of short presentations introducing the work done by the different AUT groups. The goal is to cross-pollinate ideas, improve student&nbsp;presentation skills, and build comradery. These will occur once every two weeks for 1 hour throughout the Spring 2020 Semester. There will be different formats for each talk, which will be announced ahead of time.</p> <p>Each session will include an open collaborative discussion to share ideas. Food will also be provided.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <h3>Details:</h3> <p>When: Biweekly meetings from 11:30AM-12:30PM on Tuesdays in AERO 114</p> <p>Upcoming Dates:</p> <p>February 25 -&nbsp;John Bird and Johnathan Hamilton&nbsp;</p> <p>March 10</p> <p>March 31</p> <p>April 14</p> <p>April 28</p> <p>Where: AERO 114</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Mon, 17 Feb 2020 21:37:22 +0000 Anonymous 181 at /recuv RECUV student awarded 2017 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship /recuv/2017/03/23/recuv-student-awarded-2017-nsf-graduate-research-fellowship <span>RECUV student awarded 2017 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2017-03-23T15:54:42-06:00" title="Thursday, March 23, 2017 - 15:54">Thu, 03/23/2017 - 15:54</time> </span> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/recuv/taxonomy/term/8" hreflang="en">news</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/recuv/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/katherine_glasheen.jpg?itok=fIER2X54" width="1500" height="1500" alt="katherine glasheen"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p>Congratulations to RECUV graduate student Katherine Glasheen for being awarded the 2017&nbsp;NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Their work takes&nbsp;a look at how radio-frequency interference can impact GNSS equipment on unmanned aircraft systems and how robustly the equipment can navigate those systems.&nbsp;The&nbsp;article provides background on the status of GNSS standards for UAS. It explains why radio-frequency interference (RFI) can be expected on some UAS, together with what issues the RFI could cause for the navigation&nbsp;engine. A simple experiment to determine the presence of RFI in the GPS L1 band due to proximity of a GPS antenna to electronics is presented. Next,&nbsp;the article discusses real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning for UAS purposes. In terms of accuracy, RTK positioning often provides the best results. The robustness of RTK measurements is questionable, though, because the technique relies on carrier-phase measurements. Finally, they&nbsp;present a case study, which shows some of the issues of using RTK positioning for UAS.</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Wed, 06 Apr 2016 02:52:42 +0000 Anonymous 158 at /recuv RECUV research highlighted by NSF, NBC News, and the Weather Channel /recuv/2015/10/02/recuv-research-highlighted-nsf-nbc-news-and-weather-channel <span>RECUV research highlighted by NSF, NBC News, and the Weather Channel</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2015-10-02T13:02:32-06:00" title="Friday, October 2, 2015 - 13:02">Fri, 10/02/2015 - 13:02</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/recuv/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/tempest_eadddas.jpg?h=fee4874d&amp;itok=y2gOGwrr" width="1200" height="600" alt="CU Tempest UAS"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/recuv/taxonomy/term/8" hreflang="en">news</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/recuv/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/tempest_eadddas.jpg?itok=hwVRc_6T" width="1500" height="996" alt="CU Tempest UAS"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p>The National Science Foundation, NBC News, and the Weather Channel included RECUV research with collaborator Adam Houston from the University of Nebraska in&nbsp;a 10-part video series that explores the science of natural disasters and research to avert their human and economic toll.
