Stevi Ibonie awarded Sheryl R. Young Scholarship
CU Psychology and Neuroscience graduate student Stevi Ibonie (Clinical, mentored by June Gruber) was awarded the Sheryl R. Young Memorial Scholarship for the 2023–2024 academic year. This competitive scholarship is funded and the recipient chosen by the family of Sheryl, who received her PhD from our department in 1984 but passed away at a tragically young age.
Sheryl R. Young was an energetic, enthusiastic, brilliant young woman. From early in life, she demonstrated drive, excitement at new things, verve, and a concentration that allowed her to focus on very difficult goals and problems. She was a multifaceted person with diverse interests such as scuba diving, gardening, and classical music, which complemented her talent and energy.
Dr. Young received her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ in 1984 in the Department of Psychology. She was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University where she was internationally known in computer science. She was a strong supporter of women’s causes in the sciences.
