ÌýÌýCU Psychology and Neuroscience graduate student Jane Barker (Cognitive) and her mentor Yuko Munakata (Cognitive) were in the popular press regarding some research published online in the journal Frontiers in Psychology. This research, co–authored by several other members of the Munakata lab, suggests that young children (ages 6–7) who engage in more less-structured activities have better goal–directed Executive Functioning (EF); that is, they are better able to set up and follow goals on their own to accomplish a task compared to children who engage in more structured activities.
