Nova

Nova is a first-year master's student in Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado, Â鶹ӰԺ. Her research is primarily focused on the ecological restoration of fluvial systems, explicitly examining the hydrogeomorphological impacts of beaver activity. She also explores related topics such as habitat fragmentation, riverscape connectivity, and the dynamics of human-wildlife relationships, with a centering emphasis on coexistence and the ecology of fear. Nova earned her BA in Environmental Studies from Fort Lewis College, where she also completed double minors in Peace & Conflict Studies and Regenerative Food Systems. She undertook a multi-year research project examining the water filtration capabilities of beaver pond wetlands affected by acid mine drainage in the Animas watershed. This research expanded to include non-lethal beaver management and policy changes aimed at fostering human-beaver coexistence. Outside of her studies, Nova enjoys snowboarding, hiking with her two cats, herbalism, and sewing.Ìý
