Mia is part of the McMurdo Dry Valleys LTER stream team, with interests spanning topics in polar microbiology and hydrology. Her current research focuses on applications of remote sensing and machine learning in the automatic detection of avalanches and detection of sea ice melt ponds using ICESat-2 photon cloud data. Her secondary interests include science illustration, cryoconites and life in the hyporheic zone. Mia will take any opportunity to do field research, especially if it involves skiing!
