2020 National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) Events
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) is excited to recognize the invaluable contributions of CU Â鶹ӰԺ postdocs during National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) from September 21-25.
Each year, NPAW celebrates the research and teaching activities of postdocs. Officially recognized by Congress in 2010, this year's week long celebration will feature a variety of virtual sessions covering topics specific to the postdoc community. Online offerings from CU Â鶹ӰԺ and other universities are listed below, as well as a keynote address from the National Postdoc Association to start the week.
The Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and OPA are once again sponsoring Outstanding Postdoc and Outstanding Mentor Awards. Acknowledging the significant contributions of both postdocs and postdoc mentors, these awards will be announced during NPAW.

Dr. Sharon Milgram, Director of the Office of Intramural Training and Education at the National Institutes of Health will deliver a keynote address on building resilience and well-being practices for trainees in an era of COVID-19 with an emphasis on how the pandemic has redefined our training environments and the job market for PhDs and postdocs. *Registration page allows registration for multiple events offered by the Univ. of Kentucky. Mentoring Matters: Christine Pfund, Ph.D. will discuss the science of mentorship, the need for improved mentorship of postdocs and what institutions and organizations can do to advance mentorship. Jim Mazzouccolo, Proposal Editor & Writing Coach for the Research & Innovation Office (RIO), will discuss key steps, including reviewing funder guidelines and requirements, planning the project, writing, editing and proofreading. Jim will also share details about how to navigate the university process for submitting grants, which is overseen by the Office of Contracts & Grants (OCG).

Participants will leave the workshop with a personalized plan for combating job search-related stress and uncertainty, a map of their job search support network, and strategies for navigating the job market during a global health pandemic and the resulting economic downturn.
