OPA to Celebrate National Postdoc Appreciation Week
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) is excited to recognize the invaluable contributions of CU Â鶹ӰԺ postdocs during National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW) from September 16-20.
NPAW, sponsored by the , annually celebrates research and teaching activities of postdocs. Officially recognized by Congress in 2010, the week-long celebration has grown to 432 events hosted by 108 institutions in 2018.
The Research & Innovation Office (RIO) and OPA are once again sponsoring two Outstanding Postdoc Awards and one Outstanding Mentor Award. Acknowledging excellence in postdocs and the significance of postdoc mentors, these awards will be distributed during NPAW. Nominations are open through September 2.
In addition to the awards, OPA and the Postdoctoral Association of Colorado Â鶹ӰԺ (PAC Â鶹ӰԺ) will host the events below to celebrate CU Â鶹ӰԺ’s approximately 300 postdoctoral scholars.
Monday, September 16:
- The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is excited to kick off NPAW with a lunch recognizing CU Â鶹ӰԺ postdocs and postdoc mentors. Awards will be issued for Outstanding Postdocs and Outstanding Postdoc Mentors during the luncheon, and postdocs who have completed a Professional Development Track will be recognized. The PAC Â鶹ӰԺ, the volunteer group of postdocs on campus, will also recognize recent winners of its Travel Award program.
Tuesday, September 17:
- Come celebrate NPAW with fellow postdocs at the Fiske Planetarium, one of the most awesome attractions for the campus and community. Refreshments will be available from 5-6pm with a laser show from 6-7pm.
Wednesday, September 18:
- The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs is pleased to offer postdocs complimentary professional portraits as part of NPAW. Strategic Relations will provide postdocs with a professional photo for your campus unit website, your LinkedIn profile, or any other sort of professional page.
Thursday, September 19:
- Come celebrate being a CU Â鶹ӰԺ postdoc with your fellow postdocs, friends, and family. Rayback Collective is an outdoor/indoor gathering space with multiple food trucks, adult beverages, and games for kids. The social is organized by PAC Â鶹ӰԺ as part of NPAW.
Friday, September 20:
- To conclude NPAW, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs invites postdocs to a workshop on how to effectively deliver a chalk talk. Chalk talks are typical in the academic job search and involve leading a discussion of your research agenda without prepared slides. Dr. Serge Campeau, a professor in Psychology & Neuroscience, will offer best practices and strategies on how to deliver a compelling chalk talk for faculty positions.
