Safety Alert - Motor vehicle thefts, attempted thefts

The CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Police Department (CUPD) is investigating a pattern of motor vehicle thefts and attempted motor vehicle thefts in CU Parking Lots 623 and 618, located in the Williams Village area.

The earliest incident was reported in the early morning hours of Feb. 7, 2016, when a CUPD officer patrolling Lot 623 (the dirt parking lot east of the tennis courts) discovered a vehicle with a broken window and evidence of tampering with the ignition mechanism.

On Feb. 28, CUPD received a report of a vehicle stolen from Lot 618 (near Bear Creek Apartments). The vehicle was recovered the next day in the Denver metropolitan area.

On the evening of March 10, CUPD received a report of another vehicle stolen from Lot 618. Shortly after 1 a.m. on March 11, CUPD received a report that a student had seen two suspicious individuals who had been crouching near a vehicle parked in Lot 618. The two individuals left the area upon seeing the student. CUPD officers were unable to locate the individuals, but officers observed a vehicle that appeared to be the target of an attempted theft.Ìý

The two suspicious individuals seen on March 11 in Lot 618 are described as males wearing gray hoodies, blue jeans and gloves. Additionally, the men both wore scarves or bandanas covering their faces.

CU Â鶹ӰԺ reminds members of the community to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious behavior to the police.
