Families in VA Learn 麻豆影院 Research and Life in Antarctica
Scientists visited Prices Fork Elementary School in Blacksburg, VA to talk with children in grades K-5 and their families (parents, older and younger siblings) about our research and life in Antarctica. The presentation included photos projected on a loop, demonstration with ice nucleation microbes, tactile items like stuffed animal tardigrades and Antarctic rock and soil samples. The primary focus was placed on discussing life in Antarctica, the type of research being conducted and the types of animals that live there, including the microscopic organisms. Participants were particularly interested in tardigrades. Other scientists were at the school in other classrooms, so families would cycle through the room and onto the next one. This allowed for lots of one-on-one discussions with families as they moved their way through the activities.
