From Vice Chancellor Mull: Preparing for the end of the semester
Hi Buff families,ÌýÌý
It seems like fall flew by so quickly! Sometimes it can feel like move-in just happened, and yet here we are preparing for the end of the semester. It is that time of the year when the finish line is in sight. With one week of classes left, many students are eagerly looking forward to the long winter break later this month.ÌýÌý
As your student closes out the semester, be sure check in with them and offer support. Simply listening to them if they need help processing this time of the year. Also, a gift card to their favorite restaurant, coffee shop or movie theatre is not a bad idea either! The Division of Student Affairs is also here for Buffs as they prepare to wrap things up. Please encourage your student to visit colorado.edu/finals—this is their one-stop shop for getting organized and finding the information they need. Here they can review the final exams schedule, tips and campus resources.Ìý
One special way we send our students our best wishes for a successful finals week is our CU Â鶹ӰԺ tradition of held on Thursday, Dec. 14, starting at 7 p.m. Here, students can stop by the University Memorial Center for a free, nourishing meal and the opportunity to win free prizes compliments of the Student Affairs team. I look forward to seeing your Buff there.ÌýÌýÌý
There are many upcoming events that allow students to take breaks, gather with their peers and fuel up for study sessions. These include , Free Finals Week at The Rec and . Spending time with an animal, whether it is a beloved pet or friendly therapy dog, can work wonders during busy times. One of the best parts of my day is coming home to my very energetic fur babies, Charlie and Baxter, and I can imagine many of our students are looking forward to spending time with their family pets soon.ÌýÌýÌýÌý
Once finals are over and your student has had time to rest, help them reflect on their fall semester.ÌýÌý
- What are they proud of?ÌýÌý
- What is one challenge they overcame?ÌýÌý
- What are some of their most defining moments this semester?ÌýÌý
- What could they do differently next term?ÌýÌý
- What traditions have they participated in that have made their CU experience special?ÌýÌý
- How have they contributed to their community?ÌýÌý
Winter break is necessary to relax and recharge, but it is also a great time to look forward and prepare for what is coming up. There will be many transformative opportunities for students to continue growing and learning outside the classroom. There will also be more chances next semester for Buff families to visit campus and immerse themselves in their student’s collegiate experience—stay tuned for more details.ÌýÌý
I am grateful for the times when we were able to be in community this fall and look forward to connecting with you again in 2024! Be well, take care and have a wonderful winter season.Ìý
