Among several notable activities by the College of Music鈥檚 music education department of late, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies Margaret Berg鈥攚ith doctoral students Garrett Graves, Charles Oldencamp and Gentry Ragsdale鈥攑resented a project-facilitated research poster titled 鈥淎 self-study of graduate student core reflection applications to preservice teaching鈥 at the 2023 Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE) Symposium. Additionally, Associate Professor of Music Education Kelly Parkes presented two co-authored research posters鈥斺淢easuring diversity competence in music teacher education: How, when, and most importantly, why?鈥 and 鈥淐ultural humility: Meaning and practice for music teacher education.鈥 Also at the symposium, Associate Professor David Rickels was acknowledged for his excellent work as SMTE chair (2020-2022); Rickels鈥 two-year term as past chair concludes in 2024. College of Music alumni presenters at the SMTE Symposium included Sarah Van Dusen (PhD 鈥16), Iowa State University; Jacob Holster (PhD 鈥21), Penn State University; and Angela Munroe (PhD 鈥18), West Virginia University.
