In our latest faculty spotlight, Assistant Professor of Composition and Pendulum New Music Director Annika Socolofsky discusses her recent Gaudeamus Award win and how she perceives her role as a composer, performer and educator. 鈥淭here is only one thing that I can do better than anyone else on the planet, and that鈥檚 to be fully me,鈥� says Socolofsky. 鈥淚t鈥檚 my job as a composer to be genuinely and transparently myself in my music and that means embracing my love of other types of music, art and so on. To deny that would be to deny a part of myself.鈥� Read on and be inspired.

• Annual Persevering Legacy concerts feature works by diverse women composers: The lineup includes the late Florence Price, the country鈥檚 best-known Black female composer; Zenobia Powell Perry, a professor and civil rights activist; and Gra偶yna Bacewicz, a Lithuanian and Polish emigre composer and violinist; alongside living composers such as Angelica Negr贸n and Jessie Montgomery, both born in 1981.
• CU Philharmonia honors Florence Price in newly imagined orchestration: As part of a weekend honoring diverse women composers, join us for a full orchestration of 鈥淪even Miniatures for Piano鈥� comprising seven standalone pieces鈥攅ach of which reveals different facets of Price鈥檚 creative personality. CU 麻豆影院 student and alumni composers completed the orchestrations.听听
• The College of Music鈥檚 Musicians鈥櫶齏ellness Club presents 鈥淪ix weeks to peak performance: Skills that orient you to playing your best鈥�: for this free workshop that takes place in February and March.听
