Noteworthy

Celebrating the legacy and impact of Anna Sie, lifelong supporter of the arts and humanity: Sie left a powerful legacy of impact at CU 麻豆影院, including establishing a transformational student scholarship in the College of Music with her husband, John, and endowing several faculty chairs.
Congratulations to doctoral student James Morris, national winner of the Young Artist division of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) National Composition Competition! The video of Morris鈥� composition鈥攁 movement from his sonata for cello and piano鈥攚ill be published on the MTNA website and performed at the Winners Concert at the National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in March. Morris studies piano with Associate Professor of Piano Jennifer Hayghe and composition with Assistant Professor of Composition Annika Socolofsky.
Our Professor of Horn Mike Thornton鈥攚ho鈥檚 also Principal Horn with the Colorado Symphony鈥攚ill perform Mozart鈥檚 Horn Concerto No. 4 in the Colorado Symphony鈥檚 upcoming 鈥淢ozart & Now鈥� concerts. Additionally, as an encore, Thornton will perform a work by doctoral student James Morris. Shares Thornton, 鈥淛ames wrote a beautiful Romance for one of my students last year鈥攚hen I heard it on her recital, I asked James if I could play it.鈥� Since then, the Colorado Symphony commissioned an orchestration of Morris鈥櫶齱ork as an encore: A terrific collaboration! This week, our awesome Tak谩cs Quartet was featured on NPR鈥檚 Morning Edition in The quartet commissioned the composition and gave it its world premiere in November 2023 鈥� and is now touring it across the country. The Tak谩cs Quartet will perform 鈥淔low鈥� on campus in March!听
Jan. 24: Tea + equity chats resume! During the academic year, join DEI discussions over tea. Students, faculty, staff and other campus constituents are welcome to join us on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. (Grusin Lobby).
We鈥檙e tremendously proud of Professor of Conducting Emeritus and Distinguished Professor Allan McMurray who will be inducted into the Colorado Music Educators Association Hall of Fame on Jan. 25 as part of the 2024 CMEA clinic/conference! McMurray was nominated for the well-deserved honor by College of Music Dean Emeritus Daniel Sher.
The Roser Visiting Artist Program is accepting proposals: Faculty, learn more + submit your 鈥渂ig ideas鈥� by March 1.听
