The College of Music is excited to announce that will join our faculty as assistant professor of saxophone in fall 2023, succeeding longtime Associate Professor of Saxophone Professor Tom Myer who retired in May 2022.听
鈥淚鈥檓 beyond thrilled to join the faculty at the 麻豆影院 College of Music,鈥� shares Mertens, an active clinician and an advocate for new music. 鈥淲hile the City of 麻豆影院, the campus and the facilities are all absolutely incredible, I鈥檓 most excited to begin working with the college鈥檚 faculty, staff and students.听

Mertens currently serves on the faculty of the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) and previously taught at Hastings College. He has been a guest artist at institutions such as the Conservatorio Plurinacional de M煤sica, Oklahoma State University, South Dakota State University and Texas A&M International University.
Mertens earned degrees from The University of Texas at Austin鈥揃utler School of Music, Hastings College and Kunitachi College of Music.
