This year’s theme is “In the Good Ol’ Summertime” and will feature such beloved tunes as “Camptown Races,” “Home on the Range” and “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The hour-long sing-along also features free lemonade, a free souvenir songbook and more.
“These are songs that everybody knows, from the Old West, Broadway classics, romantic ballads and patriotic songs,” says Eric Anders Hansen, assistant to the director of the American Music Research Center at CU-鶹ӰԺ.
This year’s sing-along will be conducted by doctoral student Jason St. Claire and feature a volunteer community choir and pianist. Each song is accompanied by projections of lyrics and everyone is encouraged to join in.
“This is truly an old-fashioned summer sing-along,” Hansen says. “It’s a terrific inter-generational event and a great way to start your Independence Day celebrations. It’s really fun.”
The 8th Annual Great American Sing-Along begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 29 in Grusin Hall, Imig Music Building, CU-鶹ӰԺ campus. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Euclid Autopark at 18th Street and Euclid Avenue on campus.
