In April 2011, CU College of Music alumna Beth Rosbach (MM Cello Performance 2004) started a new Colorado based conductorless string chamber orchestra called Sphere Ensemble.听 The inspiration for the group came from a self-conducted performance by the string sections of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Rosbach knew that there was a select group of talented musicians in the Denver metro area that could perform superbly in that exact configuration, and after three years of dreaming was able to gather those musicians together for the group鈥檚 debut.
Sphere Ensemble has the goal of becoming a permanent fixture in Colorado鈥檚 music scene. The group strives to perform great music from multiple styles and genres, and engage audiences with the on-stage communication and camaraderie that radiates from a quality self-directed group. Sphere鈥檚 distinctive approach and energetic music-making brings in audience members who wouldn鈥檛 normally attend a typically classical music ensemble concert. Nine of Sphere鈥檚 thirteen musicians are College of Music graduates.
Sphere gave its first set of performances in April 2011 and is now launching a 2011-2012 concert season:
