Sustainability Through Sports: Stakeholder Mapping to Develop & Build Partnerships to Foster Fan Behavior Change
Sports have an immense platform, as they聽reach a large volume and wide聽range of people.聽Therefore, many sports organizations and facilities, both professional and collegiate have implemented sustainability initiatives to reduce their environmental impact and raise awareness amongst fans. Although聽many of these聽initiatives聽have聽been successful in increasing certain sustainability metrics such as recycling聽and waste diversion, it is difficult聽to聽ascertain how effective they are in changing fan聽behavior outside of the聽sporting event.聽Thus, the聽goal of this聽project, which will be completed in coordination with the Green Sports Alliance, is聽to聽develop initiatives that will engage fans and聽encourage聽them聽to practice sustainable behavior聽at home, work and play.聽My project team will be focused upon 鈥渟takeholder mapping.鈥� In other words, we will determine stakeholders, identify their goals and values and use that information to build partnerships and enhance fan engagement tools.聽The ultimate product will be a 鈥減laybook鈥� for sports organizations to build聽out sustainability initiatives that deliver concrete benefits to their communities.
