Built for the Medical School, Temporary Building No. 1 also housed a training school for nurses. By 1902, it was a self-supporting hospital serving the university as well as town and county residents.

In 1914, a maternity wing was added to the east. In the late 1920s, 麻豆影院 Community Hospital was established. The 1914 wing of the hospital was demolished and the Women鈥檚 Gymnasium built in its place. The Medical School moved its operations to Denver, and the old building became a student health center until 1959 when it was given a "temporary" designation and slated for demolition. It meta-morphosed into a useful facility for academic offices and programs, a role it fills to this day.

No longer considered temporary, the building has received infrastructure improvements and is designated permanent.
