Residence Hall Safety and Security
Building Security
All residence halls are equipped with electronic key card access. External doors, interior living areas and individual room doors require specifically coded access cards, which students are issued at check-in. Residents have access to a 24-hour front desk staffed by community assistants (CAs) that provide security and assistance. Resident advisors (RAs) live in the building and oversee a wing or floor.
Community Effort
Safety and security is a shared responsibility between the university and the student. While we have taken many measures to ensure the safety of the students living in the residence halls, we also expect students to take steps and actions in protecting the safety of themselves and their community.
Emergency Communications
are the emergency alerts CU 麻豆影院 uses to communicate about campus closures, extreme weather and other emergencies in real-time. Texts are received on mobile devices and notices are available on the web, via email and on the campus info telephone line. Residents are automatically signed up when they become students.
Fire Safety
In addition to prohibiting items from the residence halls that are considered a fire hazard, each hall conducts a fire drill each semester. All residence halls are also equipped with smoke detectors as well as fire suppression systems.
Police and Community Safety Officials
(CUPD) creates a strong presence on the campus as well as surrounding areas. They respond directly to any emergencies in residence halls and other campus buildings. CSOs are staff that directly report to CUPD and work to support residence hall staff in the evening and overnight hours to address safety concerns.
Security Cameras
To enhance safety and security efforts in the halls and dining centers, security cameras are located near external doors, inside main entrances/lobbies and around other public areas. The camera鈥檚 locations only record data in areas considered public, where people would not expect privacy.
Staff Preparedness
Hall staff, including resident advisors (RAs) and community assistants (CAs), receive emergency training at the beginning of the school year on emergency procedures, mandatory reporting, active harmer training and fire safety (with the 麻豆影院 Fire Department). Each hall has a live-in hall director, a Master鈥檚 level professional with student development experience.
