The Department is excited to announce that our very own Prof. Bhuvana Narasimhan has been selected to receive one of this year鈥檚 Provost鈥檚 Faculty Achievement Awards in recognition of work for pathbreaking collaborative research at the intersection of language, development, and cognition, which demonstrates cross-linguistic variation in how meanings are encoded in the conceptual domain of motion. She will be presented with the award at the Fall Convocation ceremony.听
The award letter from Provost Russ Moore reads in part:听
In selecting you for this award, the faculty committee pointed to the importance of your work on the Put Project, which includes a body of research that challenges prevailing views of language-cognition. Members of the committee appreciated that your cross颅linguistic research has drawn on experimental designs and an impressive array of languages, including Swedish, Polish, Hungarian, Tamil, Hindi, English, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish, among others. Your work demonstrates that each language must be studied on its own terms and it has important implications for language acquisition.
We are proud that this innovative scholar and teacher is a member of our community! Congratulations, Bhuvana!听
