CU Linguistics Professor Laura A. Michaelis recently gave a keynote address at the biennialÌýÌýconference, held November 22-23 2017 at the Université Catholique de Louvain (Catholic University of Louvain) in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.ÌýMorphology DaysÌýis a biennialÌýinternational meeting that deals with morphology within different frameworks and from various perspectives. Previous iterations of thisÌýconference have taken place in Leuven (2015), Leeuwarden (2013), Leiden (2012), Nijmegen (2011), Luik (2009) and Amsterdam (2007). Dr. Michaelis’ talk, entitled "Tense inflection as construction: What we learn about the meanings of tenses from coercion effects", concerned the representation of morphology in a formalized version of Construction Grammar called Sign-based Construction Grammar. She was pleased to represent the Americas at the meetingÌý(one of only two North American academics present), and will return to Europe in July 2018 as a keynote speaker at theÌýÌýin Paris,Ìýorganized by Sorbonne Paris Cité University (USPC) and theÌý.
